Nice Lens - Know What You're Buying, September 20, 2009 By Chuck D (Denver, CO) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Rokinon 500mm f/6.3 Multi-Coated Mirror Lens with 2x Teleconverter (=1000mm) for Canon EOS 7D, 5D Mark II III, 60D, Rebel T3, T3i, T2i Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics) This is a quality constructed, sturdy, "big dumb lens" that provides beautiful pictures. It does NOT autofocus and the Canon EOS focusing dots will not illuminate to aid you with focusing. You must buy a manual focusing screen (about $105 from Katz Eye Optics and I installed it myself) for this to work well, otherwise you simply focus with your eye while looking through the viewfinder and hope for the best.

Rokinson 500mm lens, May 20, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Rokinon 500mm f/6.3 Multi-Coated Mirror Lens with 2x Teleconverter (=1000mm) for Canon EOS 7D, 5D Mark II III, 60D, Rebel T3, T3i, T2i Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics) I thought I already wrote a review for this. I guess not. When I bought the lens I didn't know that the ONLY aperture setting was 6.3. I thought that was the starting point. (I guess that just shows what a novice I am, LOL) I tried to take a pic of the moon recently, using the extension (to make it 1000mm). Sadly, even the slightest breeze affected the shot. After reflecting on the session, it dawned on me that I should have used a higher shutter speed--live & learn. I never retried the session. Other challenges (for me) were trying to get used to manual focus and exposures (shutter speed & ISO choices). The camera is no help because there is no communications between the lens and camera.
As far as product quality: It seems to be a very good product. I just need more practice. It is a hefty item to carry around and I had to use a separate bag for it. I don't usually nickname things I own, but I decided to name this "The Tick" because it reminded me of an engorged tick. (It... Read more
